Adult BMI
Calculate an adult body-mass-index screening measure.
How this works
BMI = weight in kilograms ÷ height in meters squared. Category uses the unrounded result, so a rounded boundary value can appear in the lower category. US-mode inputs are converted using exactly 0.45359237 kg per lb and 2.54 cm per inch. Original metric inputs remain unchanged.
Example
The illustration may use different inputs from the reproducible default inputs listed below.
At 75 kg and 175 cm, BMI is about 24.5. The equivalent US measurements produce the same result.
- Metric weight (used in metric mode)
- 75 kg
- Metric height (used in metric mode)
- 175 cm
- Age
- 30 years
- Body measurement input mode
- Metric — kg and cm
- US weight (used only in US mode)
- 165.3466966386582 lb
- US total height (used only in US mode)
- 68.89763779527559 in
- Body mass index (kg/m²)
- 24.5
For adults age 20+. BMI is one screening measure, not a diagnosis or a measure of body fat. Input mode: metric (kg/cm). Changing input mode does not convert or overwrite either set of measurements.
Scope and assumptions
Not for children or pregnancy. Muscle mass, age and other factors affect interpretation. A qualified clinician can assess individual health context.
