Running pace from a completed run
Divide elapsed time by distance to calculate average pace.
How this works
Average pace in minutes per kilometer = elapsed minutes ÷ distance in kilometers. Average speed in km/h = 60 ÷ pace. Pace is displayed as minutes:seconds, rounded to the nearest second.
Example
The illustration may use different inputs from the reproducible default inputs listed below.
The defaults give 30 minutes/5 km = 6 minutes per km. Average speed is 60/6 = 10 km/h. With all reset-default inputs, minutes:seconds per km: 6:00.
- Distance (km)
- 5
- Elapsed time (minutes)
- 30
- Minutes:seconds per km
- 6:00
Scope and assumptions
This summarizes a completed run using the distance and elapsed time you enter. It does not distinguish moving time from total time, correct measurement errors or predict another performance. It is arithmetic, not medical or training advice.
