Walking distance from steps
Multiply steps by your measured distance per single step.
How this works
Estimated distance in kilometers = whole-number step count × distance per single step in centimeters/100,000. The conversion uses 100,000 centimeters per kilometer.
Example
The illustration may use different inputs from the reproducible default inputs listed below.
The defaults give 10,000 steps × 75 cm/100,000 = 7.5 km. With all reset-default inputs, estimated walking distance: 7.5 km.
- Number of steps
- 10000
- Distance per single step (cm)
- 75
- Estimated walking distance
- 7.5 km
Scope and assumptions
Enter one step’s length, not a two-step stride. Assumes a constant measured step length; actual distance can vary with terrain, pace and measurement error. It is an arithmetic distance estimate, not a health or activity prescription.
