Monthly budget balance
Subtract fixed costs, variable spending and savings allocations from take-home income.
How this works
Unallocated monthly balance = take-home income − fixed expenses − variable expenses − savings allocations. A positive result is unallocated money under the entered budget; a negative result means the entered uses exceed income.
Example
The illustration may use different inputs from the reproducible default inputs listed below.
The default calculation is $5,000 − $2,200 − $1,300 − $800 = $700. With all reset-default inputs, unallocated monthly balance: $700.
- Take-home income ($)
- 5000
- Fixed expenses ($)
- 2200
- Variable expenses ($)
- 1300
- Savings allocations ($)
- 800
- Unallocated monthly balance
- $700
Scope and assumptions
All inputs must describe the same month. Savings allocations are subtracted as planned uses of income, not treated as spending transactions. Irregular bills, debt payments or taxes affect this result only if included in your inputs. The result is not a cash-flow forecast or financial recommendation.
